In thinking about reliability

The first time I called 911, I was a child. Someone had broken the window to our duplex, possibly trying to break in while my family settled down for the evening; my mother asked me to call while she and my father checked outside.

I am not one who has crystal-clear memories of my childhood, but I do remember very clearly how speaking with the dispatcher immediately made me feel safe.

That night, as a scared child, I believed everything would be okay when the person on the other end answered and was steady, attentive, and caring.

As I think about this memory, I think, “this is reliability in its truest sense.” Knowing that someone will answer the phone when we need it the most. Knowing that receiving help is possible.

This reliability is priceless!

Now I’ll go back to thinking a lot about reliability.
